Masking Required For NWLSD Staff and Students

MASKING WILL BE REQUIRED FOR NWLSD STAFF AND STUDENTS: JANUARY 12, 2022 - JANUARY 24, 2022

On January 10, 2022, at the Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to impose mandatory masking for staff and students at Northwest Local Schools for a two-week period. Masking will go into effect Wednesday, January 12, 2022 and will be in effect through Monday, January 24, 2022.

The decision was made as a response to the growing number of positive cases within the district, which have compounded the number of staffing shortages. The Board will reconvene at the next Board meeting, which will be held on January 24, 2022.

“We are working very closely with the Board to put the proper plans in place to mitigate the spread of Covid in our schools. As the numbers within our surrounding community continue to rise, we will continue to put plans in place to address any upticks in cases,” said Darrell Yater, Superintendent of the Northwest Local School District. “We appreciate our families’ and our students' cooperation and their partnership in helping to keep health and safety at the forefront of all that we do.”

Staff and students will be required to wear their masks properly while indoors on school property and while riding district transportation. Parents are responsible for sending students to school in a mask each day.  Masks should be two or more layers of washable, breathable and comfortable fabric that completely covers the mouth and nose and fits snugly against the sides of the face, leaving no gaps.
